Shaw Cross Infant and Nursery School

Within our school all staff and Governors are trained annually on our safeguarding procedures and are fully aware of the key documentation to promote safeguarding within our school, such as the school’s Safeguarding Policy and ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ which can be found on the 'Policies' page of our school website. We also actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism and have a range of policies and procedures in place which enhance our contribution to safeguarding within our school. 

Sometimes, we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child.  If a suspicion of abuse is recorded, parents and carers will be informed at the same time that the record is made. 

School policies are in place to ensure that there is a consistent approach to practices throughout the school. Please see our safeguarding policies. All policies and guidance applies to all staff and volunteers working in the school. The governing body monitors the school’s adherence to policies and procedures and reviews the school’s policies. 

The school has a firmly embedded Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy. The policy gives details as to the procedures to identifying and reporting suspected abuse.  Staff are trained in safeguarding and weekly staff meetings have a standing agenda item for safeguarding. A Single Central Record listing of every adult who comes in to contact with children in our school and the safety checks they have taken place to ensure everyone is safe to work with children. This is checked by the head teacher and safeguarding governor. 

We understand that every family may face challenges. We can offer Early Help to families to ensure that you can receive support when you need it. Early Help means working with you and your family so that small problems don't become bigger. If you feel you and your family might need support to solve some problems, you can ask to talk to the teacher or nursery key worker about early help.   

Our curriculum is used to promote safeguarding by teaching pupils how to stay safe, how to protect themselves from harm and how to take responsibility for their own and other’s safety. Our e-safety for parents has more information about keeping children safe online.
