What We Are Learning In Year 1
We have many exciting opportunities in Year 1 to learn new things and develop our skills. Click on the pictures below to find out all the things we will be doing each term.
Homework
Numeracy homework given at the end of each week is aimed at providing your child with an opportunity to practice their learning and also share their knowledge with you.
Children will bring home weekly spelling/phonics homework based on the phonics they will be learning throughout the following week. Spellings will then be tested at the end of the following week. Please help your child by blending the phonemes in word to read, and look for patterns in words to help them spell.
Reading scheme books will be changed weekly. These may or may not have been read in school depending on whether children have taken part in guided group reading.
Please remember that you are welcome to supplement your child’s reading with books from the shared reading boxes which can be found in the corridor between the Year 1 classrooms. We hope they will be used by many children as a valuable resource to support their learning.
Library books are exchanged weekly on Friday’s. This provides your child with the opportunity to select books of their own choice.
DB Primary
During their time in Year 1 children will work on e-safety and begin to work on our Virtual Learning Environment: DB Primary. Further details will be to follow in the forthcoming weeks.
